Item 5 - “Like Freedom Feels"
Acrylic painting by Emily Severinsen
48" x 48"
This exuberant abstract acrylic painting on canvas measures 48”x 48” and resonates with shapes and color. While Emily Severinsen’s primary interest is in the figure, she describes herself as a colorist which is evident in her offering for our 2007 auction.
As demonstrated, she finds the non-objective form gives her greater opportunity to explore color and paint in a way that is new and exciting to her. Emily began painting eight years ago after she retired from television writing. Her next career began with a drawing class and her interest deepened and evolved from there. For nearly 20 years, she wrote and produced well-known situation comedy series such as Rhoda, WKRP in Cincinnati, Newhart, and Designing Women. She also created, wrote and produced Coming of Age, a half-hour comedy on CBS.
With that background, it’s easy to see how she is able to put so much life into an abstract that exceeds defined boundaries.
Generously donated by Emily Severinsen – San Miguel
Her art is on display in Studio 13C in La Fabrica Aurora.

To the heart of the cactus
Oil on board painting 40" x 40"
This 40” x 40” encaustic oil on board painting of a cactus interior is by a new artist, Marcos Valencia, who employs hot wax with oil paint to achieve the bas relief surfaces in his works. Item 13 - “Storm At Sunset Over The Pacific"
by Harry Van Dine
Oil painting 25" x 32" framed
This electrifying oil painting on canvas mounted on masonite is a study in nature and its dramatic effects. The sunset of hot reds and yellows, minutely reflected on the ocean’s surface, is just a sliver between dark, thunderous blue and black clouds against the sky. Measuring 25”by 32”, it is framed in black wood, trimmed in gold, and ready to hang.
Harry Van Dine is a well known San Miguel artist, whose paintings are in private collections both here and in the United States. He has had several shows here and in Michigan, where he formerly resided.
A retired architect, his work is predominantly figurative and invariably realistic. Recent works have included a wide variety of individuals ranging from bikers to loco clowns and explorations of hands in ways that defy logic. His landscapes are beautifully representational with subtle surrealist overtones, as represented in his offering for our 2007 auction. He is a graduate of Yale College and following three years in the US Navy, he received a Masters from the Yale School of Architecture.

Item 16 - “Madera Magico"
Intricacy and artistry in wood
by Eucled Moore
Eucled Moore is known for his elegant work incorporating various woods and glass beads. This intricately designed piece features redwood burl, maple burl, lacewood, wenge, curly maple, and paduk with approximately 12,500 glass seed beads embedded. It measures 25” in diameter and 2.75” in height, and includes a stand that can be used on a table top or as a wall mounting.
The technical name for Eucled’s work is polychromatic segmented lathe turnings. Small pieces (segments) of exotic woods make up the sculptures. All the different colors seen in the pieces are the natural colors of the wood. A single sculpture can require 10,000 pieces to produce one of his intricate and complex designs. Because the pattern is built into the wall of the turning, you see the same designs on the inside of the turnings as you see on the outside. This combination of exotic wood, fine craftsmanship and exquisite original designs produces sculptures of incredible beauty.
Generously donated by Eucled Moore – San Miguel de Allende
Eucled’s work is normally shown exclusively in the USA, but you are welcome to contact him at 152-7228 for a private showing at his studio in San Miguel.

Item 26 - "Rainbow Reflections On Pearls"
Lustrous necklace with matching earrings
Polynesian legend has it that the black pearl oyster was offered to Ono, the god of peace and fertility, who came down to earth on a rainbow. He gave the black pearl inside to the princess of Bora Bora as a sign of his eternal love and fidelity. To this day, a gift of black pearls is a gift of romance and love.
The complementary necklace and earrings offered here were created specifically for the 2007 auction. Colors of the rainbow are reflected in each of the black pearls and the silver accents. With a centerpiece of a handmade Mexican silver “donut” station, the necklace creates an aura of romance and beauty inspired by fusing Asian and Latin elements.

Item 38 - "An International Artist’s Vision"
Abstract by Pam Lacayo
41”x 29 ½” framed
This strong acrylic painting by Pam Lacayo measures 41”x 29 ½” framed. It was executed in muted earth tones with a creamy white horizon. The artist came to painting after 25 years of following a very successful career as an Interior Designer in Hawaii. She graduated from the University of Southern California and although her working life was much involved in the design field, she continued her skills in painting by attending the University of Hawaii and the Honolulu Academy of Arts.
Pam and her husband, Norm, moved to San Miguel in 1991 and four years later she was, at last, able to devote her full energies to painting. Her medium is acrylics and there are many layers to the work.
As acrylic paint dries so quickly, she explains, it is like playing with the paint every day, for her a joyous
experience. She is drawn to paint silent, peaceful spaces from experiences or memories of places
where she has lived or traveled.
Pam has shown in group and one-man shows in San Miguel and is at present in the Zoho Gallery
at Fabrica de Aurora, and in G Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Item 43 - "La Parroquia – Oeste”
by Daniel Rueffert
30” x 36”
“La Parroquia – Oeste” is a quintessential post-impressionist rendition of the west side of San Miguel de Allende’s iconic Jardin and Parroquia. Painted in the morning light of early spring 2007, Dan skillfully captures the tranquility and grandeur of San Miguel’s beloved landmarks. This en-plein-air brushwork painting reflects many of Dan’s masterly trademarks, including bold use of color, provocative use of shading and shadowing, and a pronounced sense of balance and unity. Measuring 30” x 36”, it was painted on canvas and custom framed. In a stroke of whimsy and aforethought, Dan filmed the construction of this painting. An edited version of the film can be seen on YouTube, link provided below.

Item 48 - "Lunar Eclypse"
by Annemarie Slipper
This metal hanging, reminiscent of a night sky, was created with the unique technique Annemarie Slipper has perfected using rain water, vinegar and limes in her raku kiln. The results are a stunning effect of rust and smoke on tin. Over the decades this process has evolved and changed as she has added a small amount of color to heighten the richness of her work.
Canadian-born and trained, Annemarie has been doing figurative sculpture for over 20 years and now stands at the pinnacle of her artistic career. “No matter what museums I visit, I always look at the Cycladic collections, as well as the older Eskimo art and Chinese funerary figures. These are all important influences on my work,” says Slipper. This synthesis of culture and spirituality is more than evident in this year’s offering, with its rich gold and brown tones. Annemarie has had many solo shows at various prestigious American and Mexican galleries.

This blue-ribbon selection from Joyeria David celebrates the contrast between deep blue lapis lazuli mineral and cool silver metal. Its graceful curves lay close to the neck in a way that is both flattering and stylish.
David Perez is a highly regarded jewelry designer located in the heart of San Miguel. Before settling in San Miguel, he traveled through Mexico to learn the art of jewelry design and fabricating. Since then he has taught generations of jewelers, some who have been with him for over 20 years.
